Established to provide specialized training to Texas police officers assigned to Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams, the Texas Tactical Police Officer Association (TTPOA) holds an annual competition with such events as sniper and hostage rescue competitions. The competitive event helps officers acquire new skills and test their existing expertise.
Teams from Texas and Louisiana attend TTPOA competitions and participate in scenarios that accurately simulate conditions in actual situations that SWAT teams encounter. With the added pressure of time limits and penalties, participants have opportunities to refine their techniques and approaches to high-pressure situations.
The TTPOA announced that its 2013 competition will take place in late October. The Houston Police Department hosts the 2013 event.
